Local History: Lough Rynn has plenty of history due to Lord Leitrim's reign, especially during the famine where the population in Leitrim fell from 250,000 to 25,000 in the 1840's. The castle and grounds are a testament to his planning and expertise with land drainage, architecture and planting. However, to his workers it was not a nice place,'Lord Leitrim was a good man if he got his own way.'
